What is a “151” Master Set?

Because this is a special set, the rules are slightly different. There are no Booster Boxes, only bundles and collections. A true Master Set involves collecting the base card and the reverse holo for every single Pokémon and Trainer.

How Big of a Binder Do I Need?

1. The “Purist” Collector

Goal: Official Set Only (No Promos)

Total Cards: 360

Recommendation: A standard 9-Pocket Binder (360 slots) fits this set EXACTLY. It is one of the most satisfying binder fills in the hobby – zero empty slots, zero overflow.

2. The “Grand” Master Set

Goal: Official Set + Cosmos Holo Variants + Energies

Total Cards: 375+

Recommendation: If you plan to collect the Costco Cosmos Holos or the Cosmos Energy cards, you will need a 12-Pocket Binder (480 slots). The 360-slot binder will be too small.

The HD Cosmos Energy Set For the true completionist, the “Grand Master Set” also requires the 8 Holo Energy cards. These were randomly inserted into standard 151 booster packs (replacing the reverse holo slot) but feature the “HD Cosmos” foil pattern:

  • Grass, Fire, Water, Lightning, Psychic, Fighting, Darkness, Metal.

Top Chase Cards in Scarlet & Violet – 151

This set is famous for its “Demigod Packs” and high-value starters. Here are the ones to watch.

Charizard ex #199

The King of the Era. Featuring stunning artwork of Charizard flying over the canyons of Paldea, this is arguably the most desirable card in the entire Scarlet & Violet block.

Blastoise ex #200

A fan favorite. The artwork captures a submerged Blastoise looking up towards the light, offering a unique perspective rarely seen in Pokémon cards.

Venusaur ex #198

Completing the trio, this card features vibrant, floral artwork that perfectly contrasts with the other two. It is essential for completing the “Big Three” display page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the total exactly 360 cards?

It’s a rare coincidence! The set has 165 standard cards. When you subtract the 12 “ex” cards (which don’t have reverse holos), you get 153 Reverse Holos. Add the 42 Secret Rares, and the total is exactly 360.

What are the “Cosmos Holo” exclusives?

If you are building a “Grand Master Set,” you need to hunt down 7 cards that share the official set numbering but feature unique “Cosmos” foil patterns. These are found in specific retail products:
Abra & Kadabra: Alakazam ex Collection
Electabuzz: Zapdos ex Collection
Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu: Costco Bundles

Why is Metapod the hardest card to pull?

You may hear collectors joking about the “Metapod Bounty.” Due to print run quirks, the Metapod #011 Reverse Holo became notoriously difficult to find, with prices often exceeding some Illustration Rares. If you are struggling to find one, you are not alone – it is widely considered the “Gatekeeper” of the 151 Master Set.

Start Your 151 Master Set Today

Whether you are a “Purist” aiming for the clean 360-card binder or a “Grand Master” hunting down every Cosmos Holo variant, the Scarlet & Violet—151 set is one of the most rewarding collecting experiences in Pokémon history.

Don’t let the reverse holos overwhelm you. Use the Binder Forge 151 Tracker to visualize your progress and complete the Kanto Pokédex once and for all.
